Part 3 of our series on Mindful Sustainabilty . . .
So Much Data, But What To Do With It
We have access to, it seems, unlimited data. Between the emails choking our inboxes and online posts hawking the latest article, conference, dashboard, software, yadda, yadda, yadda how can we not get overwhelmed!! Don’t get me wrong, I love information, but, unless it serves some purpose, it’s just noise. And, at some point, I’m guessing you do what I do, you stop reading and start deleting. So, how do you determine what information is valuable and deserves your attention? Answering just a few questions will point you in the right direction. Have you benchmarked your operations? (That will set your baseline against which to measure.) Have you defined goals? (That’s your target for what you want to accomplish.) What are the things that will have an impact on reaching your goals? (Those will be your metrics for measure.) The metrics you are using will be the information you need to pay attention to and there don’t have to be a lot of them. Until you have answers to these questions, it will be difficult to create your action plan. Without going through this exercise, your efforts will be disjointed and likely disappointing. Let’s talk about how we can help you create your mindful sustainability program.
